M&R Roofing is a certified Velux skylight installer.  Here is a Velux deck mounted roof skylight installation we recently did in Oakville.

The video begins by showcasing the previous bad installation of a Velux roof skylight.  Due to inappropriate installation the skylight was leaking, so the installer placed caulking everywhere he possibly could around the skylight.  No skylight requires caulking for the install, especially not a Velux skylight.  The skylight is designed to be water tight when properly installed.  We then proceed to install a new Velux deck mounted fixed skylight according to manufacturer specifications.  General descriptions of the installation steps are included in the video.  If your skylight is leaking or you are interested in the installation of new skylights, please contact us.  We can perform all the necessary carpentry to install your skylight.

Here M&R Roofing is repairing and replacing slate roof tiles in East York, Toronto.

Our client’s roof still contains the original slate tiles which appear to be about 100 years old, but some were broken and missing and needed to be replaced.  The original tiles were much smaller then those currently available on the market, so we had to cut them down to the appropriate size.  We also tried to match the colour as closely as possible, however the match will never be perfect because of available stock, wear of original tiles and the nature of stone.  In this case it was possible to repair some of the slate roof tiles because they were quite solid.  In other cases, the roofing slate may be of inferior quality and very soft, in which case it is very difficult to repair since many will break in the process.  Those borken must be replaced and the process is less cost effective then installing new slate tiles on the roof.  Below are some photos of such a case where the slate is so soft it easily breaks and turns into dust.

We recently completed a roofing project for our client in Oakville where we installed the Certainteed Independence premium designer shingle in the weatherwood colour on the mansard portion of the roof.

For the less visible top portion of the roof the client decided to go with a lower cost alternative the Certainteed Landmark shingle in matching weatherwood colour.  Given the matching colour and that both shingles are a laminated style the difference in the shingle design is difficult to notice even from across the street.  We finished all the metal flashings in a commercial brown colour to match the shingles, including aluminum work on the sides of the windows which were previously brown painted plywoods.  The project also included the installation of all new eavestroughs and downspouts, which we installed in the sable colour.  The new downspouts were smartly placed further back on the sides of the house, which the client agreed is more aesthetically pleasing then the previous position at the front of the house.  This roofing project is a great example of how the selection of a premium designer shingle can really sharpen the look of a home.  Please view the image gallery to see how great this mansard style roof turned out.
